Plan a Visit to Mongolia
Mongolia is located deep and far away from the Eurasian continent, it is little known to the western traveler. It is a vast desert or steppe, with few human settlements, but the landscape is excellent. If you plan a visit to Mongolia, then know why Mongolia is a special tourist destination, different from the most popular tourist centers, where the busiest roads lead. Nature, almost intact by human activity, is the main wealth of this country.
That is why eco – tourism fans flock to Mongolia in large numbers. The country’s capital, Ulan Bator, houses the largest and richest monasteries visited by numerous pilgrims. Near the city, there is the Bogda Ula mountain reserve (Holy Mountain). To the west of the capital, on the bank of the Orkhon River, there are excavations of the Karakorum, the ancient capital of the mongol empire. Nearby is the first in northern Mongolia and one of the largest Buddhist monasteries, built in the 16th century. It has become a famous museum now.
To the north – west of the province of har – horin, cave paintings of the Neolithic and Bronze Age have been discovered. Rock painting can be found in some river canyons, and in the desert of southern Gobi there are giant paleolithic workshops. Among the natural attractions, the most attractive is the powerful waterfall on the upper reaches of the Orkhon River. In the Gobi desert, fossil animals from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods can be found. The flora of the Mongolian steppes is relatively poor and monotonous, but among the rare species of fauna, the Mongolian antelope, the wild camel and the desert bear can be mentioned. The rivers are exceptionally rich in fish, which makes the country very attractive for sport fishing.
Ulan Bator was founded in 1639 and is a political, commercial and cultural center of the country. The city can be safely called ‘the most unusual capital of Asia’. The residents of the capital can live in a yurt in the center of the city. They often saddles a horse right in the doorway of his house to go to work. And yet, this is a very modern city that houses a quarter of the state’s population and has its charm and character.
The main attractions of Mongolia tour package or the capital are the World Peace Bell in the central square, the monument and the mausoleum of Sukhbaatar (the national hero, who declared the independence of Mongolia from China), the Winter Palace that belonged to the last Mongol emperor, the Gandan Monastery, the largest in the country, the Museum of Buddhist art, the House of Parliament and the Palace of Culture. The country’s rich history is reflected in many museums in the capital, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Natural History Museum, where one of the best dinosaur bone collections in the world is stored, the National History Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts. Arts with a rich collection of crafts, the National Toy Museum and many others.
The neighborhood of Ulan Bator is no less fun. For example, there is a beautiful valley with the Manzushir Monastery in the town of Dulun – Boldog. Bogda Ula Mountain is the birthplace of Genghis Khan, where you can see the monument to the great conqueror and founder of the Mongol Empire.
Special attention should be paid to Lake Hovsgol, the deepest lake in Central Asia. It offers luxurious fishing opportunities, and the surrounding forests are inhabited by many wild animals. This area is very picturesque and is often called the “Switzerland of Mongolia”. The ruins of Karakorum remember the times when it used to be the capital of the Mongol empire. But only some attractions survived here, including the Ogedei Khan palace, the remains of stone walls, artisan neighborhood, numerous religious buildings and Buddhist monasteries.
