Introduction To Mobile Policing
3 min readMobile Patrol Adelaide is a car safety service based in Adelaide. It is a joint effort of the Department for Transport and the City of Adelaide. The purpose of Mobile Patrol Adelaide is to increase safety within the roads and increase awareness of road safety. Mobile Patrol will also respond to emergencies occurring within the area or outside the limits of the CBD.
Mobile Patrol is supported by specially trained officers who are outfitted with the latest vehicle equipment. The vehicles have a two-way radio with the capability to send and receive messages to the Police Central Traffic Division or Crime Scene Command. Each patrol car is equipped with: a fully working lights system, siren, flashing strobe lights and an emergency vehicle tracking unit. The police car is equipped with:
Each Mobile Patrol vehicle is equipped with: two rearview mirrors, two side view mirrors, a GPS/CDL radio, two way radio, two CB radio headsets, a siren, tow bars, brake lights and an immobiliser/brake light. Each vehicle also has a customised Bat Mobile Tailgate that can be detached to allow access to the tailgate area. Each Mobile Patrol vehicle has an allocated designated driver who is responsible for all the required driving duties. This designated driver will go out on the patrol vehicle to make vehicle surveillance checks of suspicious behaviour.
The driver will check the interior of each vehicle. They will check for: scratches, dents, stains, holes and tears inside and out of all vehicles. If they discover anything suspect, the driver will photograph it and report it to the Police. They may also note down a plate number if required.
Mobile Patrol does not carry weapons unless specified by the Police authority in charge of the region in which the patrol operates. When not carrying weapons, they will carry batons or firearm to deal with any emergency. They will not approach an emergency if their vehicle is not responding. If an emergency occurs, they will report it to the Police and they will assist the caller by ringing the relevant area code.
Mobile Patrol operates in marked and unmarked vehicles. All patrol vehicles are fitted with: lights and sirens, emergency roadside assistance, passenger and driver safety seat, first aid provisions and GPS navigation. Each vehicle has designated drivers who drive it on designated routes. This means that the driver will know exactly where he is going at all times. This helps them avoid dangerous driving situations that could become hazardous.
Mobile Patrol has a fixed rate of speed that they are required to maintain. Speeding punishments are strictly enforced and will occur to the most reckless of drivers. Once a vehicle reaches speeds over 25mph, it is banned from being used to patrol. If a driver attempts to reach a speed of more than that then they will be reprimanded and possibly charged with speeding. The Police force regards all motorists as dangerous and all traffic violations are treated equally regardless of the driver’s intentions.
The Mobile Patrol vehicles are fitted with high-tech tracking devices so that if they are involved in an accident or theft to the Police are able to recover the car quickly. The vehicle is also fitted with CCTV so that if an attempted mugging is carried out then the footage can be viewed on a monitor and the driver can be identified and arrested. Due to the high level of safety that is afforded to the Mobile Patrol, accidents between them and private cars are rare. Therefore Mobile Patrol around the UK is able to offer the same level of protection to you that would be offered to a member of the public.
